Technique and application choices
Balayage is a hand-painted, freehand method that places lighter pieces where hair naturally moves and grows. At Xxenial Hair Studio we begin with a consultation to map placement, then protect the hair with included bond protection and finish with a gloss or toner that refines tone and surface shine.
Decisions between partial or full coverage are guided by your starting color, desired contrast, and length. Balayage pricing at our studio starts at $350; more extensive correction work or full-head painting is quoted after we assess color history and the technical steps required during the in-person consultation.
What to expect at appointment
A standard balayage session at Xxenial is scheduled for 130 minutes so a stylist can hand-paint placement, allow processing time, and complete finishing steps without rushing. That time includes the consultation, application, processing, bond treatment, and the final gloss or toner for polished, dimensional results.
Our Mission District location is steps from 16th St Mission BART and Valencia Street, which makes post-commute appointments convenient. We offer early evening and weekend openings to fit transit-oriented schedules and busy lives—consider timing around Dolores Park plans or nearby dining to make the appointment part of your day.
Maintenance and local climate care
Color evolves with sun exposure, washing, and the local climate; San Francisco’s cool, often foggy summers can slow fading but may also mute warmth. We include a gloss/toner and bond protection to help seal tone and strengthen fibers, and we’ll recommend at-home care matched to your lifestyle and styling routine.
Refresh needs depend on porosity, the amount of lift, and how bright you want the effect to stay. During the consultation we assess likely change over time and suggest gloss or toner touch-ups and bond treatments when appropriate, especially for correction work or high-contrast lifts.
